About our insulation contracting company in Vacaville

J&S Vacaville Insulation Services is an insulation contractor in Vacaville, CA. We're best known for attics, with the gaps sealed first and the insulation added after. Homeowners call us about drafty rooms and tired old insulation, and property managers call us about their buildings.

A worker in protective coveralls sprays loose white insulation through a hose across an attic floor beneath exposed rafters.

From selling insulation to doing the work myself

I didn't start out in attics. I sold energy upgrades for another company, and after a couple of years I wanted to be the one up there doing the work, so I joined an install crew and learned it by doing it.

We opened J&S Vacaville Insulation Services here in Vacaville in 2017. Most calls start with a hot upstairs, a drafty room over the garage or old insulation that's gone flat, and most of the fixes are in the attic. We do the air sealing first, closing the gaps around lights, pipes and the hatch, and insulate after, because insulation laid over open gaps just fights a draft.

Selling taught me how easy it is to sell the big job when a house needs something smaller. I'd rather lose the sale than talk you into work your home doesn't need, so the first thing we fix is the right first thing.

What you can expect when we look at your house

These are the things you'll notice once we come out. They come from the way I learned the trade, up in attics, and from seeing firsthand how this work gets sold.

  • Someone who's done the work

The person who looks at your home has spent years installing insulation, not just quoting it. You get a straight answer that day about what to fix first, whether that's the gaps around the hatch, the insulation itself or something else entirely.

  • We check before we quote

Before I write anything down, I look for wet spots, old wiring and insulation that's soaked or full of droppings. New material laid over that just buries the problem, so the plan you sign fits the house you actually have.

  • We'll tell you if it's fine

If your attic or crawl space is in good shape, I'll tell you so and you won't get a quote for work it doesn't need. Sometimes the fix is sealing a handful of gaps, and when that's the case, that's what we'll recommend.

  • Foam only where it pays

Spray foam costs more, and it seals air while it insulates. Sealing the gaps and topping up with loose fill blown in through a hose usually does the job for less, unless your ductwork runs through the attic, and then foam often makes sense.

Licensed and insured for insulation work in California

California's contractor licensing board requires a license when a job needs a building permit, uses any added workers, or totals $1,000 or more in labor and materials. We're licensed and insured for that work.

Response time

We reply within one business day.

What happens after you call us

From the first call to the final check, the person who looked at your job is the one who signs off on it. Here's how that goes, step by step.

  1. Tell us what's going on

Call us at (707) 452-3285 or use the contact form and tell us what you're noticing, like a drafty room, cold floors or a power bill that keeps climbing. We reply within one business day to set a time for me to come out.

  2. I come out and look

I come out to every job myself and look at the attic or crawl space and the rooms that bother you. I check how many inches are already up there, then walk you through what I found before we talk about any price.

  3. You get it in writing

The estimate is free, in writing and comes with no obligation. The price turns on how big the space is, how easy it is to reach and whether old insulation has to come out first, and I'll tell you how permits work for your job.

  4. We do the work, I check it

Our installers do the work, and when your job needs a permit, we apply for it and set up the inspection ourselves. Before we finish, I check the job, including the edges and the eave vents, since those are the spots that usually go wrong.
